2024 Thank You
Another successful year has drawn to a close. Many people contributed to making our 2024 Summer Camp a success.
First, we thank Jim McDonough of Jim McDonough Cutting Horses, his family, and staff for hosting our 2024 TACO Camp. We can't thank them enough for everything they do for TACO and their help.
As we said numerous times throughout the week, camp would have been impossible without the horses and their amazing temperaments. We cannot thank our horse owners enough for everything they do to make TACO possible.
Teresa Critchfield and Grey Ghost, Tamara Fleming and Zip Ty and Kitty, Susan Reade and Delilah and Jim McDonough and Jazzware.
On Monday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nolasco showed the campers their drone. Everyone loved watching the drone fly around the farm!
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office returned, and Sgt. Neal and his K9 gave a wonderful demonstration. Our campers and volunteers loved learning about the K9 and seeing the demonstration.
Orange Healthy Community Action Team donated containers for the campers to plant herbs and flowers on Wednesday!
Also, thank you to Orange and Madison County Public Schools Transportation Department for transporting our campers daily. In addition, we would like to thank Dr. Hornick, Superintendent of Orange County Public Schools, for meeting with us earlier in the year to learn more about TACO and how he could help promote it within our schools.
Campers were provided with an afternoon snack each day. We'd like to thank Orange Baptist Church, Christ Anglican Church, Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and St Thomas Episcopal for their donations of afternoon snacks.
As always, Gibson Rental donated a tent so our campers could enjoy crafts and snacks in the shade. We greatly appreciate their support every year.
Betsy McGinnis donated her artistic talents again this year to draw our t-shirt. We absolutely loved the design she created!
We’d like to thank our monetary donors: Gordonsville Medical Foundation, Culpeper Home Medical, Jack Samuels Realty, and an anonymous donor.
We continued our "Shop Local" Basket for the Orange County Fair Auction this year. Local businesses donated products and gift certificates to be included in the basket. We'd like to thank the following businesses for their donation: Emily Ryder, Orange Tire, Inc., Honah Lee Vineyard, Garden of Eden Orange, VA, Iron Pipe Alewerks, Darnell's Garden Patch, Chateau Merrillanne, Altman Tire & Auto Sales, Thirty-One with Jessica Gredler, The James Madison Museum of Orange County Heritage.
We will be hosting a silent auction towards the end of summer. We'd like to thank the following donors: Beverly Thomas, Massage Therapist; El Vaquero, PS Hair; Split Ends; Woodbrook Farm Vineyard; Forked on Main; Two Pups Pottery; Central Virginia Wine Tours; James Madison Museum; Jennifer Conley—MONAT; 854 Treats; Garden Gate Florist; Melissa Martin; Amy Fitch—Pampered Chef; Janie Latham; Homegrown Creatives Co. Paint It Orange, and Just Good Scents Soap Company. We are still looking for additional donors for our silent auction!
In addition, a huge thank you to all the individuals and businesses who bid on our auction piece, including the winner, Battlefield Farms. This year's auction piece was a huge success for TACO, and we cannot thank all the donors and bidders enough for making it such a success!
This year, we hosted 13 campers. We'd like to thank all of our campers' parents for trusting us with their children daily. We love working with every one of our campers and were so excited to see so many new and returning faces this year!
Volunteers are invaluable; this year, we were so fortunate to have so many, both returning and new! We had an amazing 57 volunteers for camp; 27 were first-time volunteers! Without the dedication of our volunteers, none of this would have been possible. We cannot thank our dedicated volunteers enough for all the time you have volunteered with us! Camp would not be possible without all of your help.
Six deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and eight employees from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative were among these volunteers. We cannot thank these organizations enough for allowing their employees to volunteer with us.
Lastly, we'd like to thank our committee, which worked countless hours to make our 2024 camp successful. The camp would not have been possible without everyone's hard work.
